Three consultant studies (“Transit Studies”) dealing with different aspects of the urban transit industry have been prepared in order to obtain a better understanding of the transit industry in Canada. These studies build on the work of the Transportation Climate Change Table (Transportation and Climate Change: Options for Action) and the Canada Transportation Act review panel. Transport Canada would like to thank the considerable contributions of the study steering committee members: Canadian Urban Transit Association, Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and the federal departments of Environment, Finance, Industry and Natural Resources.
The Transit Studies provide a foundation for the next step – ongoing dialogue with the Provinces, municipalities and key stakeholders. The topics covered include: developing a strategic vision for urban transit, the current state of the Canadian transit industry, and an analytical framework to assist in the assessment of alternative transit investments.
PLEASE NOTE: the Transit Studies are distributed for discussion purposes only. The views and findings of these studies are the opinions of the consultants and do not necessarily represent the views of Transport Canada or any of the study steering committee members.
