Urban Transportation Showcase Program

Program Origins

Addressing climate change

This program builds on work by the multi-sectoral Transportation Table on Climate Change, which researched options to reduce transportation GHGs in Canada, and assessed their probable impacts and cost-effectiveness. Some of the options examined by the Transportation Table are included in showcases that are being funded by this program.

By talking to stakeholders across Canada, the Transportation Table identified an urgent need to demonstrate and evaluate the real-life application of many promising GHG reduction measures. The Table also identified a need for practical information on how to implement these measures in different communities.

Based on these conclusions, the Urban Transportation Showcase Program was developed under the Government of Canada's Action Plan 2000 on Climate Change, and is currently part of the Climate Change Plan for Canada.
