Casual Employment

What is casual employment?
Casual employment is a job with an employer or private homeowner that lasts anywhere from an hour to two weeks. The primary goal of casual work is to help students/youth gain valuable work skills, have fun, and make a little bit of money!
What kind of casual work can you expect to find?
Typically, casual jobs include yard and home maintenance. However, casual work often includes jobs such as office work, babysitting, construction, and almost anything else.
How old do you need to be to do casual work?
Anyone 12 and over can register with the Casual Employment Program, although if you're under 16, the Casual Employment Contract needs to be signed by a parent or guardian.

How to go about registering?
All you need to do is fill out a registration form and sign the contract at your local Service Canada Centre for Youth.

What do I do after I've submitted my casual registration and signed the contract?

Check your email (or call 983-5520) for the list of jobs available then phone the hotline at 983-5520 for a referral.  Call-in operated on a FIRST COME-FIRST SERVED basis.

If you accept a job referral, you are required to contact the employer right away to inquire about the details of the job.  Then call 983-5520 to let us know if you do or do not take the job.

On rare occasions Employment Officers may contact you to fill a certain job for which you have certain qualifications. However, do not expect Employment Officers to contact you whenever a job is available - it is your responsibility to let us know when you would like to work.

Where can I get more information?

We have numerous qualified staff members located throughout the province that are available to help you. All you have to do is call the nearest location.
