Group Information Sessions

1. Classroom Group Information Session (GIS)

GIS where one to two Summer Employment Officers visit a classroom to do a presentation, generally lasting approximately an hour in length, about various topics such as:

Resources such as the "Looking for a Job?" booklet are included for the students to take home with them. In addition to presenting the information in a more traditional method, we can also facilitate learning games with the students which help make the sessions a lot of fun.

2. Hallway Booth

This is where one to two (and sometimes more) Summer Employment Officers visit schools, drop-in centres, or career fairs to set up a table packed with helpful resource material from the Service Canada Centre for Youth. Booths can be set up during lunch hours or at whatever time is good for the students. If your school is hosting a job fair, we would be more than happy to set up a resource booth. Summer Employment Officers will be on hand to answer any questions that the students have and to promote our services. We will also bring along a ballot box so that students can enter a draw to win Hire-A-Student gear.

3. In-House Group Information Sessions

Teachers or guidance counsellors are welcome to bring groups of students to our centre for a tour and a job-search workshop covering topics selected by the school. Smaller groups are recommended for in-house group information sessions.

TO BOOK A GROUP INFORMATION SESSION, CONTACT THE SERVICE CANADA CENTRE for YOUTH NEAREST YOU.

In our effort to raise awareness of our program, we also have pamphlets which we would like to place into all of the final report card envelopes. There is no cost to the school division in this venture since our office is printing and delivering the stuffers to the school. In addition, we can also provide you with resources from the Service Canada Centre for Youth. For more information please contact the location nearest you.

Summer Employment Officers are well-trained, energetic, and terrific speakers. They are all university students, and can easily identify with your students. It was not long ago that many Summer Employment Officers faced the uncertainty and challenge of a job search themselves. Our presentations are informative as well as enjoyable. We look forward to coming to your school or organization and helping your students and youths!
