Highlights

1947 - Trans-Canada Air Lines put into 
          service the first pressurized four-
          engine Canadair North Star.

1949 - Newfoundland becomes the 10th 
          province of Canada and the 
          Newfoundland Railway becomes 
          part of the Canadian National 
          System.

1950 - The icebreaker C.D. Howe was 
          commissioned

1952 - The icebreaker d'Iberville was 
          commissioned which represented 
          Canada at the Coronation Review for Queen Elizabeth at Spithead.

1953 - The diesel electric icebreaker Labrador was built at Sorel for the 
          Royal Canadian Navy.

  • Trans-Canada Air Lines first trip to London.

1954 - The Motor Vehicle Transport Act, which transferred the administration 
          of inter-provincial and international highway to the provinces, was 
          passed.
