1. Introduction

The main objective of the listserv discussion is to share ideas, opinions and views on the key issues facing youth living in rural and remote areas of Canada.

It's an opportunity to provide and share information, voice concerns, clarify important issues, offer suggestions to address issues facing youth living in rural and remote regions of Canada. The discussion is as good as you make it and we hope you will take an active part.

2. Participation Guidelines

The rules for the listserv discussion are simple in order to keep it open, flexible and informal. But the rules we have we take seriously, so please read these carefully before taking part in the discussion. Messages will be screened by the moderator based on the rules below.

The Top Eight Rules of Engagement

1. Stick to the topic
We want to make sure we cover a lot of ground, so please make sure your responses deal directly with the topic being discussed. Unrelated messages will not be posted.

2. Be brief and readable
Everyone lives busy lives so the only way we can ensure that all subscribers read the messages and take an active part in the discussion is by making sure your postings are very clear and easy to understand.

3. Think before you post
Everyone is allowed up to 2 postings per day, so we encourage you to plan what you want to say before sending your message. Re-read the message before you send it.

4. Be respectful and constructive
The listserv discussion is no different than a face-to-face discussion when it comes to dealing with other people. Respect for the opinions and perspectives of others are key. You can disagree with one another, but make sure you do it in a constructive way.

5. Don't shout
Typing your messages in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS comes across as SHOUTING online. Please don't shout unless you have a very good reason to want to capture the moderator's attention!

6. Identify yourself
When posting a message please, identify yourself by using your name and your province.

7. Post in either French or English
You are all encouraged to post in the official language of your choice. Messages will not be translated, but efforts will be made to help non-bilingual participants understand what is being discussed.

8. Give your message a title
To help everyone follow the flow of discussion, please make sure to give your messages a title. Example: Youth Employment in the Yukon.
