Canadian Rural Partnership
Rural Dialogue Session Reports
From May to July 31, 1998, approximately 7,000 rural Canadians expressed their opinions on their challenges, priorities and opportunities and the role they saw for the Government of Canada in rural development.
Their input was received through 33 cross-Canada facilitated Rural Dialogue sessions organized by the Rural Secretariat of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. In addition, rural Canadians were invited to fill out a Rural Dialogue Workbook, in which individual citizens, families and groups responded to a series of six questions.
The Rural Dialogue session reports represent the views of 855 rural Canadians, approximately 13% of all the input the Rural Secretariat received from citizens throughout Canada from May until the end of July, 1998. The remaining 87% was received in the form of Rural Dialogue Workbook submissions.
All the opinions collected are summarized in a paper entitled Rural Canadians Speak Out, which was used as the basis for discussions at the National Rural Workshop, held October 2-4, 1998, in Belleville, Ontario.
