The National Rural Youth Network (NRYN) represents the diverse views of youth in rural, remote and northern Canada.

Our mission includes:

  • providing a forum for young Canadians to learn from one another;

  • sharing information and perspectives on issues of importance to rural youth;

  • offering a mechanism where rural youth can ask questions, discuss priority issues in a broad forum, learn about existing tools and programs, and exchange success stories and best practices;

  • opening up avenues through which information about federal policies, programs and services can be better transmitted to young Canadians in rural, remote and northern communities; and

  • helping to ensure that rural, remote and northern communities continue to voice their opinions and concerns in order to influence federal policies and initiatives in a meaningful way.

WE need YOU in order to achieve our mission!

  • We can provide the forum, but we need Network members at large to participate by sharing information and perspectives on issues.

  • We can offer a mechanism in which rural youth can ask questions, discuss priority issues, learn about existing tools and programs, but we need YOU to ask the questions, join in on the discussions, and challenge us to provide that information.

  • We need to solicit information and provide information to youth regarding federal policies, programs and services, but we need to have a NETWORK base to draw from.

    We would like to ensure that rural, remote and northern communities continue to voice their opinions and concerns to influence federal policies and initiatives in a meaningful way . . . but we need YOU to voice concerns and opinions!

HOW do you do this? It can be VERY simple.

Go to our website (www.ruralyouth.ca) to register to become a member, or just visit the Forum and post your thoughts, ask a question, voice a concern and take advantage of the opportunity to see what other Canadian rural youth are thinking. You may also subscribe to a listserv e-mail discussion group.

What do YOU get out of being a member?

  • A chance to help us achieve our mission WHILE meeting other rural youth, helping your community, taking advantage of travel and award opportunities and developing the future of the Network.

  • This is a vital time for the National Rural Youth Network. We have been established for just a few years, and are still growing and changing. It is now that you can get involved and change things for the better!

HOW can you be involved?

There are many different ways in which members of the NRYN can be involved. You do not have to commit a lot of time to the Network, but keep in mind, the more you involve yourself, the more rewards you can reap.

  • Ongoing website Forum discussions. Post as much or as little as you'd like to or simply read about what other young Canadians are saying.

  • Network conference calls . The general idea for these calls is to discuss events, issues, and concerns with Network members. Dates and times will be announced through the listserv and posted in the Forum.

  • Involvement at the provincial/territorial level . Each province and territory has one principal Council member and at least one alternate Council member. The NRYN Council meets via conference call monthly (or as needed) and via the NRYN Forum. It is up to the province/territory to select the representative so, if you are interested, get in touch with your Council representatives. (These names and contact information can be found on the website.)

The Canadian Rural Partnership provides financial and in-kind support to the National Rural Youth Network. The Partnership is a Government of Canada initiative that provides rural, remote and northern citizens with the opportunity to develop local solutions to local challenges.
