Canadian Rural Partnership
Partnerships: Interdepartmental Working Group on Rural and Regional Rural Teams 
The Rural Secretariat provides leadership on rural policy development and rural issues within the federal government. It has built a multi-departmental team within the federal government. In Ottawa, that effort is led by the Interdepartmental Working Group (IWG), while at the regional level it is spearheaded by Rural Teams in all provinces and territories. The Interdepartmental Working Group and Rural Teams, which currently consists of 32 federal departments and agencies, are the key vehicles for the Rural Secretariat to coordinate the work of the federal government on rural development issues. They meet regularly to share information and to ensure that all departments are working together on the Canadian Rural Partnership. The Rural Teams are made up of federal departments and, in most cases, provincial and territorial ministries that have a shared interest in facilitating rural community development. By using a cross-government approach, the Rural Teams provide regional forums for government partners to come together, build partnerships and collaborate to address community needs. The Rural Teams are evolving to include other levels of government and key stakeholders.
