The Agri-Food Policy Framework - International

Welcome to the home page of the International Scientific Cooperation Bureau

The government of Canada invests in S&T in order to build Canada's reputation and competitive advantage in today's world.

Indeed, as indicated by the prime minister's advisory committee on S&T: "International S&T activities are necessary for advancing knowledge, creating wealth, and improving quality of life". Researchers should collaborate and exchange scientific informations with other countries to help stay abreast of the latest scientific developments; researchers should be encouraged to participate in collaborative research projects and; governments need to participate in and contribute to international scientific forums to make good science-based issues.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) benefits from international science cooperation because it:

  • Gives access to international knowledge and technologies
  • Contributes to build AAFC world class excellence in science
  • Gives opportunities in adapting Canadian technology to international markets
  • Contributes to international confidence in Canadian products, technology and regulation
  • Contributes to help removing technical barriers

AAFC's participation to international scientific activities, through MOU's, Academic Exchange Agreements, international treaties, international societies, journals, universities and conferences, aims at meeting Canada's priorities on agriculture, as well as fulfilling Canada's international commitments.

Ensuring AAFC's place in the world

The International Scientific Cooperation Bureau was created in April 2004 to promote AAFC scientific activities with other countries and intergovernmental organizations. It is your principal contact for scientific international issues.
