To ensure that shell eggs and processed egg products leaving federally inspected
establishments for interprovincial and export trade or are being imported into Canada, are
safe, wholesome and graded according to established standards, and are packaged and
labelled labelled to avoid misleading consumers and to facilitate orderly marketing.
CFIA activities include:
- registration of egg grading stations and manufacturers of prepared egg products;
- inspection and certification of domestically produced egg products, and exports;
- residue testing;
- retail inspection including enforcing label regulations at retail; policy and program
development for food labelling and label verification); and
- verifying that food advertising complies with requirements.
