Food Microbiology and Chemical Evaluation Division

The Food Microbiology and Chemical Evaluation Division’s responsibilities include scientific and technical support and advice to the Agency’s commodity programs and inspection staff, specifically, the development of national surveillance and liaison activities. In collaboration with the Food Commodity Programs, Operations Branch and the Science Branch, it designs national sampling plans and participates in the development of intelligence systems to monitor the safety of domestic and imported food. The Division provides health risk assessments and develops risk management responses for food emergency issues. It serves as the key contact and liaison with Health Canada and other outside organizations for discipline related health risk assessments and scientific, technical and regulatory issues with respect to food safety.
