Nova Scotia Court Fines Les Pêcheries Marinard Ltée. $3,000 for contravening the Fish Inspection Act

On September 6, 2006 in Provincial Court, Dartmouth , Nova Scotia, Les Pêcheries Marinard Ltée. a fish processing company based in Gaspé in the Province of Québec entered a guilty plea to a charge of violating subsection 14.(1) of the Fish Inspection Regulations, an offence under the Fish Inspection Act.

The offence, the illegal processing of frozen shrimp for export from Nova Scotia, occurred on or about November 8, 2005.

The court sentenced the accused to a fine of $3,000 and imposed a six month probation order.

Subsection 14.(1) of the Fish Inspection Regulations states:

"No person shall export fish, process fish for export or store fish for export unless the processing or storing of that fish is carried out in a registered establishment."
