Application Form
Due to the growing demand for regular training on design and operational concepts
related to Containment Level 3 (CL3) facilities, the course structure has been revised to
facilitate delivery and to meet the audiences needs. The revised course will address
the basic and intermediate design and operational concepts associated with CL3 facilities
through lectures and practical exercises.
Objective
By the end of this course, participants will be familiar with basic and intermediate
levels of design and operational concepts associated with Canadian CL3 laboratories.
This course will provide hands-on participation and discussion of how CL3 facilities
for both human and animal pathogens are planned, designed, constructed, commissioned,
certified and operated.
Presented in part as an interactive course, participants will be encouraged to actively
engage in the course discussions and practical sessions.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for biosafety professionals, CL3 facility users and managers,
engineers, architects, and other personnel involved in designing, operating or managing CL3
facilities.

Application Information
Enrollment to the course will be limited to 60 participants. Applications must be
received by August 15, 2006. Applicants who have been selected will be notified by August
31, 2006. Once advised of acceptance, payment must be received by September 18, 2006 to
maintain registration.

Course Fees
$600
Fees are in Canadian dollars. The course fees include the program and course manual,
attendance at sessions, refreshment breaks, lunches (Monday - Thursday), dinner at the
National Arts Center (Tuesday evening), and transportation. The fees do not include
accommodation costs. Information regarding payment of course fees will be provided to the
selected participants with their acceptance letter.
Accommodation
The course will be offered in a meeting room located within the Lord Elgin Hotel,
Ottawa.
The negotiated rate for a traditional room is $136.00 per night, single or double
occupancy, plus applicable taxes. A block of rooms has been set aside for use by course
participants. Rooms must booked by October 5, 2006. Reservations should be made directly
with the hotel.
