Rural Dialogue in the Eastern Townships

Rural Team Quebec

Rural Team Quebec consists of representatives of some 20 federal departments and agencies. It is part of the Canadian Rural Partnership, the strategy adopted by the Government of Canada to support the development of rural and remote communities.

Rural Team Quebec=s mission is to support rural communities in their development activities and to foster young people=s integration in and contribution to their communities.

Since its creation in 1998, it has, among other things, organized a number of information and dialogue sessions in the various regions of Quebec. These meetings had a dual purpose: to help the Government of Canada gain a better understanding of the rural community, its challenges and possibilities, and to enable communities to gain a firm grasp of their own issues. Rural Team Quebec has also set up four regional rural teams (Eastern Townships, Lower St. Lawrence, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Montérégie) to liaise between federal stakeholders and local partners in those regions.

Horizon Rural is a publication produced by Rural Team Quebec specifically for the residents of the rural and remote communities of Quebec. The first issue, distributed by the Rural Secretariat, presents a clear picture of the many youth-oriented initiatives and projects to which the Government of Canada has contributed.
