The National Farm Products Council is composed of at least three members, and may have up to nine. At least half of them must be primary producers at the time of their appointment, according to the legislation that created the Council. Members are appointed by Cabinet for terms of varying length and may be re-appointed. The Chairperson is the only full-time Council member.

 

Cynthia Currie, Chairperson (1997~2007)

Cynthia Currie has chaired the National Farm Products Council since 1997 and is its only full-time member. Prior to joining the Council, she was the General Manager of the Chicken Farmers of Canada, the national organization which represents Canada's chicken farmers. She was also a member on the Canadian Agri-food Marketing Council and the Agri-food and Beverage Sectoral Advisory Group on International Trade. She resides in Ottawa.

Ron O'Connor, Vice-Chairperson (1998~2007)

Ron O’Connor was appointed to the National Farm Products Council in 1998 and became Vice-Chairperson in 1999. Mr. O'Connor and his wife Irma own and operate Irm-Ron Farms Ltd in Dufferin County near Shelburne, Ontario. Throughout his thirty-six years of farming, he has been involved in the production of eggs, pork, beef and chicken. He has served as a representative on a provincial committee for Ontario Egg Producers and Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO). In 1992, Ron was elected to the Board of Directors of Chicken Farmers of Ontario and served as Chairman of CFO in 1996 and 1997.

Stuart Affleck, Member (2004~2007)

Stuart Affleck is a commercial potato farmer in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island. He is a former Vice-Chair of the P.E.I. Potato Board, a former Junior President of the National Farmers Union and a participant in various farm financial appeal boards at the Provincial level.

   

Juliann Blaser Lindenbach, Member (2004~2007)

Juliann Blaser Lindenbach is an active partner with her husband in a holstein pure breed dairy operation. She is a Board Member of Dairy Farmers of Saskatchewan and the National Promotions Committee for Dairy Farmers of Canada. Juliann is a strong advocate in the Saskatchewan education system. Her professional background began as a Registered Nurse and continues to work on a part-time basis in Ambulatory Care.

 

Maurice Giguère, Member (2001~2007)

Maurice Giguère, a resident of Otterburn-Park, Quebec, is the former Director General of the Centre de recherche, développement et de transfert technologique en acériculture. A member of the Association des MBAs du Québec, he is the former president of the Association des abattoirs avicoles du Québec, and a former board member of the Canadian Turkey Marketing Agency, the Canadian Poultry & Egg Processors Council, and the Association des manufacturiers de produits alimentaires du Québec.

Susan Johnson, Member (2004~2007)

Susan Johnson is an owner-operator of Shoreline Stock Farm, a ranch that has been a leader in the development of hybrid cattle, in Eddystone, Manitoba. She has experience in the Manitoba co-operative industry, is an active leader in local 4-H organizations and is a Farm Family of the Year Award recipient. She is also a member of North Parkland Growing Opportunities Advisory Council, Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Initiatives.

 

Roger Richard , Member (2004~2007)

Roger Richard owns the agricultural business Ferme Pouce Vert in Acadieville, New Brunswick. His family farm grows a variety of vegetables on a 15 acre garden, as well as strawberries on a 6 acre pick-your-own operation. He serves on the board of directors of the N.B. Federation of Francophone Farmers (Fédération des agriculteurs et agricultrices francophones du N. B.) and of the N.B. Agricultural Council. In addition, he is an active member of several other committees in the Kent region.

 

Michel Veillette, Member (1998~2008)

Michel Veillette, a resident of Cap-de-la-Madeleine, Quebec, is the former President of Froma-Dar Inc. and André Frappier Inc., manufacturers and distributors of specialty cheeses. He was also Vice-President of Les Produits laitiers J.A. Baribeau Ltée. A Former President of the Conseil de l’industrie latière du Québec, he is a former Member of Parliament and was Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Consumer and Corporate Affairs from 1981 to 1984.
