Canadian dairy cattle is recognized for its ability to produce high quantities of milk over many lactations. During 2003 and 2004, exports of Canadian dairy genetic material diminished drastically because of the single case of mad cow disease detected in Canada. From January 2004 to January 2005 however, the value of dairy genetic material exports grew by 73%. In 2004, their value reached nearly 46 million dollars.
