Vanclief announces new Chair of Dairy Commission

OTTAWA, October 2, 2002   Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lyle Vanclief today announced the appointment of John Core as the Chair of the Canadian Dairy Commission.

"I'm pleased to announce Mr. Core's appointment to the Canadian Dairy Commission," Mr. Vanclief said. "His many years of experience will be invaluable as the Commisssion continutes its work to make the Canadian dairy sector the best in the world."

Mr. Core has an extensive background in the dairy industry, both as the owner/operator of a southwestern Ontario dairy farm ans as a teacher of college-level agriculture technology courses. Mr. Core served as a board member of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) from 1981 to 2001 and as Chair from 1990 to 2001. He was also a board member of the Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) from 1986 to 2001, serving as president from 1999 to 2001.

Mr. Core's leadership skills were recognized by all stakeholders throughout his tenure at DFO and DFC, a period that saw significant industry changes and the implementation of new trade agreements.

The Canadian Dairy Commission was created by an Act of Parliament in 1966 to ensure that the interests of all stakeholders in this multi-billion-dollar industry are served, from producers to processors to consumers, while maintaining an adquate supply of high quality dairy products for domestic markets.
