Location and Directions:
Located in Fredericton's historic Military Compound, the library is at the foot of Carleton Street across from the Carleton Street Armouries. The library boasts a wonderful view of the Saint John River.
Number of Internet Stations: 4 in the adult area, 2 in the juvenile section and 9 in the training lab
Programs and Activities:
- Friends of the Library sponsor lecture series in fall and winter, roughly every other week.
- Tales for Twos, Tuesdays, 10:10 a.m., program for children 24-35 months and their caregivers, featuring stories, rhymes, songs and other activities. No charge. Limit 20
- Storytime, Tuesdays, 10:45 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
Program for 3-6 year olds featuring stories, rhymes, songs and other activities
- Babes and Books, Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:00
Program for babies 6-23 months and their caregivers, featuring lap rhymes, tickles, knee bounces, music and of course, books! No charge. Limit 20
- Family Drop-In Storytime, Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A 30 minute program including stories, fingerplays, songs and activities. Family participation is encouraged.
- Hackmatack Reading Club, Wednesdays once a month
- Saturday Morning Activities, 10:30 a.m. A story and craft program for children ages 7-12 at 10:30 a.m. Registration required, limit 20
About the Library:
- Extensive collection of music and videos, the largest in the province.
- Some special collections, such as a reference-archival collection, the Mary Morrison Mayo Folklore Collection and the Don Walker military collection.
- Active and ever-changing displays of books of interest, with bibliographies
