Background Information

Vision
The Prince Edward Island Rural Team (PEIRT) envisions a vibrant society where rural communities and their partners work together to implement their decisions.

Mission
The Mission of the PEIRT is to assist PEI federal and provincial departments/agencies in developing partnerships for facilitating rural community building

Objectives
The objectives of the PEIRT are :

  • To promote a better understanding of rural issues and concerns with various government departments/agencies by engaging these departments in a Dialogue with stakeholders, community organizations, communities and citizens.
  • To improve the fundamental understanding of the Rural Lens and what it means to departments.
  • To create a better understanding of provincial rural issues through data collection and research.
  • To obtain strong support from senior management at various levels of government and build strategic alliances with other networks, and to strengthen capacity building efforts within communities.
  • To support/create opportunities for federal government to learn lessons on rural issues.
  • To provide better support and tools for the Rural Team members to promote and apply the Rural Lens.
  • To create an efficient and effective operational structure for the Rural Team.
  • To follow up on the outcomes and expectations of the May 2003 Rural Youth Forum.
