CIF Community Grant Application

Community Initiatives Fund & Lottery Trust Fund

In Saskatchewan, many community activities in culture, youth and recreation are supported in part with proceeds from lottery ticket sales and casino profits.

Lottery ticket profits are distributed through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation.  The lottery-funded system for sport, culture and recreation is delivered to the people of Saskatchewan through three important, independent community partners.   These "global" organizations -  Sask Sport, Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association and SaskCulture - collectively represent hundreds of community organizations and ensure that lottery proceeds benefit every community in the province.

A portion of casino profits from the Regina and Moose Jaw casinos are distributed to community initiatives through the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF).  The CIF is managed through a government-appointed Board of Trustees.  The CIF benefits communities throughout the province by providing grants for community-based projects that benefit young people and encourage leadership at the community level.

Culture, Youth and Recreation administers the legislative and regulatory framework for managing distribution and use of both the Lottery Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation, and the CIF.  In this stewardship capacity, the department works closely with the lottery partners and the CIF Board of Trustees.
