Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) 2005 Employee Survey Results

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, June 23, 2006 - The Canada Revenue Agency's (CRA) 2005 Employee Survey results, released today, confirm that the CRA continues to be an employer of choice. Eighty-six percent of respondents find the Agency a good place to work and 95% say they are strongly committed to making the organization successful. These results are even more significant as the response rate for this Survey was a remarkable 72.4% - up from a response rate of 60.2% for the CRA 2002 Employee Survey and response rate of 57.3% for the CRA 1999 Employee Survey.

Michel Dorais, the Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the CRA, said, “the remarkably high participation rate is testament to the increasing commitment of CRA employees to the Agency and their work. All three Employee Surveys that we have conducted over the past few years have given us valuable information about how our employees view the Agency and their work, and we will once again use these results to continue to improve our workplace and the service we provide Canadians.”

This latest CRA Employee Survey was conducted in November/December 2005 and was a replication of the 2002 CRA Employee Survey. The Survey was designed to assess employees' views on a range of issues affecting their well-being and workplace. The Survey was conducted at the same time as and was identical to the 2005 Public Service Employee Survey.

The results show many improvements over the last Employee Survey, particularly in the area of improved work relationships with immediate supervisors. For example:

  • 81% believe their immediate supervisor assesses their work against identified goals and objectives (up from 73% in 2002);
  • 82% said they could discuss the results they are expected to achieve with their immediate supervisor (up from 76% in 2002);
  • 78% indicated they receive useful feedback from their immediate supervisor on their job performance (up from 73% in 2002); and
  • 58% reported their immediate supervisor does a good job of helping them develop their career (up from 53% in 2002).

“While these results are encouraging, we will nevertheless be developing plans with the participation of managers, employees, and the unions to ensure that action is taken on the entire feedback that we have received,” said Mr. Dorais.
