Mandate

To ensure new commercial ships comply with applicable acts, regulations, codes, conventions and standards.

Technical Services is responsible for:

Approvals & Inspection

  • Approval of design plans for new ship construction submitted by ship owners, marine consultants & shipbuilders.
  • Inspection and testing for all aspects of new construction covering hull, machinery, electrical and nautical components.
  • Approval and assignment of load lines for new ships.
  • Approval of stability tests and stability documentation for all conditions of loading & damage.
  • Inspection and test of life rafts.

Certification

  • Issue of statutory seaworthiness certificates for safety and construction of ships and the protection of the marine environment.
  • Issue of international tonnage certificates.

Auditing & Monitoring

  • Audit of tonnage measurement in relation to ship registration.
  • Monitoring of the audit process for the international safe management of ships.
  • Ballast Water Management
