The Agri-Food Policy Framework - International

International Scientific Cooperation Bureau

The International Scientific Cooperation Bureau (ISCB) aims to enhance international science and innovation cooperation and to foster science excellence and productivity by:

  • Assessing greatest sources of new ideas and emerging technologies
  • Enhancing Canadian science and technology capacity through partnership with organizations in other countries
  • Providing science advice and expertise in support of trade and international development
  • Supporting AAFC and the Government of Canada international commitments

The vision and the objectives

The vision and objectives associated with the implementation of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's International Scientific Strategy were developed from material contained in Canada's International Policy Statement.  The vision: mobilizing AAFC researchers around its international scientific capability to expand AAFC's knowledge base and contribute to international well-being.  This idea translates into three main objectives that define the application of the strategy.

  1. To increase AAFC expertise in science and innovation and promote Canada's reputation for excellence in agriculture and agri-food
  2. To provide scientific expertise supporting Canadian market development and trade and meet the needs of developing countries
  3. To co-operate with intergovernmental organizations in order to increase well-being around the world

In Canada, the federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Agriculture have pledged to meet today's challenges by jointly developing a comprehensive Agricultural Policy Framework. The international scientific strategy fits in with the objectives of the Agricultural Policy Framework and is aimed at broadening AAFC's international scientific contacts and ties.
