Panel to review the electoral system for Directors of the Canadian Wheat BoardThe CWB Election Review Panel is Cecilia Olver of Corning, Saskatchewan; Greg Porozni of Vegreville, Alberta; and David Rolfe of Elgin, Manitoba. Janice Baker has been appointed as a special advisor to the panel. The panel's broad terms of reference will include everything from voter eligibility to electoral boundaries to balloting. Over the course of the last four CWB elections, many farmers and farm organizations have requested improvements to the CWB electoral system. There have been four elections held since the Government of Canada introduced amendments to the Canadian Wheat Board Act in 1998, providing for producers to elect ten of the fifteen directors on the CWB's board and therefore putting the farmers in control of their grain marketing agency. In the process of reviewing the director election system, the panel is asking for input from the public, especially those who have been involved in a CWB election as a voter or as a candidate.
