Canadian Rural Partnership
Rural Dialogue - Introduction

The Rural Dialogue, a key component of the Canadian Rural Partnership, is designed to respond to rural development issues and concerns.

The Rural Dialogue engages Canadians from rural, remote, and northern regions in a two-way discussion with the federal government on opportunities, challenges and priorities, as well as on the role that governments, communities, stakeholders and individuals play in enhancing the quality of life in rural, remote, and northern Canada.

Since its launch, several Rural Dialogue activities (workshops, surveys, regional and national conferences) involving over 16,500 citizens from rural, remote, and northern regions were held across the country. These activities helped communities identify their goals and assets in order to control their own future. The Canadian Rural Partnership, through the Rural Dialogue, seeks to ensure that the federal rural agenda is citizen-centered and that the federal government actions and programs are coordinated.

Looking into the future

Rural Canadians have indicated a strong interest in continuing the dialogue with the federal government. They want to continue to express their views in order to influence decision making on federal programs and policies, and to be kept informed of ongoing government initiatives in rural Canada.

Accordingly, the Rural Dialogue is continuing through the regional dialogue activities conducted by the Rural Teams , Rural Dialogue On-Line Discussion Group, the Youth-Dialogue-Jeunesse Discussion Group and the Rural Exhibit Program.

For further information on the Rural Dialogue and to obtain copies of the Dialogue publications, please call 1-888-781-2222 or contact the Rural Secretariat representative in your region.
