About CSIDC Objectives Brief History Organizational structure Publications |
The Canada-Saskatchewan Irrigation Diversification Centre (CSIDC) promotes crop diversification and sustainable irrigation practices to Saskatchewan producers and industry. Through market-driven research and demonstration projects, CSIDC responds to farmer and industry needs to improve the sustainability and profitability of farms. CSIDC investigates and demonstrates new crops, technologies, and management techniques that assist Prairie producers in adopting practices that sustain land and water resources. Research also focuses on mitigating the effects of irrigation on the environment. Current projects at CSIDC include precision farming, lower elevation spray application (LESA) technology, drainage studies, and irrigation scheduling. Another priority at the Centre is to expand crop production options for rural clients. The benefits of high value crops, such as dry bean and seed potato, include greater economic returns, opportunities to add value, and increased sustainability of the rural economy. Agronomic information is made available to Saskatchewan producers who want to diversify their operations outside the scope of traditional crops. CSIDC's Technology Transfer Program ensures that clients across the western regions have access to technical and developmental opportunities through factsheets, seminars, lectures and displays, annual reports, newsletters and pamphlets, field days, and scientific publications. CSIDC is a Canada joint venture with Saskatchewan Agriculture & Food, the Irrigation Crop Diversification Corporation (ICDC) and the Saskatchewan Irrigation Projects Association (SIPA). |
