ROOT FOR THE FARM – IT’S OUR 120TH ANNIVERSARY!

OTTAWA, Ontario, September 8, 2006 - The Central Experimental Farm is hosting an Open House on Saturday, September 9, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will have displays and exhibits illustrating the research on the farm. Our world-renowned insect, plant and fungus collections will be on display along with live insects such as preying mantises, hissing cockroaches and Carmen, the tarantula.

Friends of the Farm and Fletcher Wildlife Garden will have activities in the Dominion Arboretum, Ornamental Gardens and Wildlife Centre. 4-H members will talk about their clubs and activities. Canada Agriculture Museum will have free admission for the day. The staff and volunteers who work on the farm have been creating a time capsule. Come and examine the contents before the capsule is locked and sealed for the next twenty years!
