“Simplified” Versions of CFIA Decision Documents
CFIA’s Assessment of PNTs for Environmental and Feed Safety

The Plant Biosafety Office (PBO) evaluates plants with novel traits (PNTs) in Canada for environmental safety, while the Feed Section evaluates their safety for use as livestock feed. The results of these evaluations are described, in technical terms, in decision documents that are posted on the PBO Web pages.

The documents found here on the Office of Biotechnology Web pages are based on content from six PBO/Feed Section PNT decision documents. These simplified versions are intended to give readers a basic description of the CFIA PNT safety assessment process in language less technical than that of the original decision documents. The headers and text are derived from the original documents and companion regulatory directives. These simplified versions include links to the original documents so that readers can refer to more detailed information.
