Ontario Company Fined $5,000 for an Offence Under the Meat Inspection Act

On April 12, 2006, Tender Choice Foods Inc. of Burlington, Ontario pleaded guilty in Provincial Court to one count of violating paragraph 10.(2)(b) of the Meat Inspection Act. The company’s guilty plea resulted in a fine of $5,000.

The Meat Inspection Act regulates the import and export and interprovincial trade in meat products, the registration and standards of establishments and the inspection and the standards of animals and meat products prepared in those establishments. Section 10 of the Meat Inspection Act pertains to requirements in packaging, labelling, selling and advertising meat products.
