This species prefers Crataegus, Malus and Pyrus (hawthorn, apple, pear). It also feeds on the leaves of other fruit trees and deciduous forest and shade trees.

This species occurs in middle and southern Europe, the Middle East, the former USSR and central Asia, and mainland China.
