FOOD, FEED AND SEED PRODUCTS CONTAINING U.S. CORN

November 18, 2004

To: Parties involved in the supply, storage, importation, transportation and handling of corn and corn-based commodities from the U.S.

The purpose of this advisory is to inform all parties of the TERMINATION OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR STARLINK™ TESTING DOCUMENTS for U.S. whole grain corn imported into Canada.

The CFIA has reviewed the StarLink™-related pre-entry border program and determined that further requirements for testing documentation is not necessary. This decision is based on U.S. information showing a significant decline of StarLink™ in whole grain corn as well as a greater than 99% compliance rate by importers to provide negative documentation.

Please note that StarLink™ corn remains prohibited for import to or use in Canada. The CFIA will discontinue the negative StarLink™ testing requirements for imports of U.S. whole-grain corn.
