Introduction

The Other Ruminant Market Development (ORMD) Program is a key component in reorienting the livestock industry to meet the challenges in a post-BSE environment. The Program is designed to lessen the impact of potential future border closures on the sector by capitalizing on opportunities in domestic and export markets for products from other ruminants (does not include genetics), and developing within the individual species groups the capacity to undertake significant market development activities.

The Other Ruminant Market Development Program provides funding to support activities that improve market access; gain recognition and build domestic and international markets; and, enhance capacity that responds to identified industry needs.

In this way, the Canadian livestock industry will enjoy improved access to global markets, and will strengthen its ability to increase international sales.
