Introduction

The Sustaining the Genetic Quality of Ruminants (SGQR) Program is a key component in ensuring the continued integrity of the purebred sector in order to maintain Canada's favourable position as markets reopen. The Program is designed to maintain Canada's world-renowned reputation for high quality genetics and to ensure the viability of the breeding associations. This will be achieved by ensuring that producers are able to continue the maintenance of registration, records of performance, and other genetic improvement tools, thereby ensuring the integrity of the purebred sector.

The Sustaining the Genetic Quality of Ruminants Program provides funding to support breed association activities that sustain the competitiveness of the sector, gain recognition and build international markets, and maintain and enhance capacity that responds to identified industry needs.
