FARMER IN THE DELL PROHIBITED FROM JUICING FOR 3 MONTHS

On May 31, 2006, Ms. Sonya D. Hibner, doing business as "Farmer in the Dell", entered a guilty plea, in provincial court in Vernon, B.C. to one count of violating section 4(1) of the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act . Ms. Hibner was given a three month conditional discharge. As part of this discharge, the court issued a probationary order that required her not to produce juice for three months.

In October 2004, the CFIA conducted an inspection at a retail outlet and found non-compliant products manufactured by Farmer in the Dell. One of the non-compliant products found was a quantity of apple juice for sale that did not have a declaration of net quantity.

The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal legislation including the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and its regulations. It protects consumers by contributing to food safety, the protection of plants and the health of animals in Canada.
