FARMER IN THE DELL PROHIBITED FROM JUICING FOR 3 MONTHSOn May 31, 2006, Ms. Sonya D. Hibner, doing business as "Farmer in the Dell", entered a guilty plea, in provincial court in Vernon, B.C. to one count of violating section 4(1) of the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act . Ms. Hibner was given a three month conditional discharge. As part of this discharge, the court issued a probationary order that required her not to produce juice for three months. In October 2004, the CFIA conducted an inspection at a retail outlet and found non-compliant products manufactured by Farmer in the Dell. One of the non-compliant products found was a quantity of apple juice for sale that did not have a declaration of net quantity. The CFIA is responsible for enforcing a variety of federal legislation including the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act and its regulations.
