ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED EGG IN OCEAN JEWEL BRAND FROZEN OVEN READY BREADED POPCORN SHRIMPOTTAWA, July 31, 2006 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with allergies to egg protein not to consume Ocean Jewel brand frozen Oven Ready Breaded Popcorn Shrimp described below. The affected product contains egg which is not declared on the label. The affected product, Ocean Jewel brand Oven Ready Breaded Popcorn Shrimp, product of China, is sold frozen in a 340 g package bearing UPC 0 59371 64331 6. All codes are affected by this alert. This product is known to have been distributed in Ontario, Alberta and Quebec but may have been distributed nationwide. There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of this product. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein. The importer, Export Packers Company Ltd., Brampton, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
