Les Aliments Morales Ltée Fined $2,000

Les Aliments Morales Ltée, located in Montreal, has been convicted of removing goods seized without the authority of an inspector; a violation of subsection 24(2) of the Food and Drugs Act.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency inspector had seized bottled drinks of various flavours because the labels did not bear a common name or a list of ingredients in French, a violation of subsection B.01.012(2) of the Food and Drug Regulations.

On May 17, 2004, Madam Justice Raymonde Verreault of the Court of Quebec sentenced Les Aliments Morales to pay a $2,000 fine and ordered the confiscation and destruction of the seized goods.

CFIA prosecution bulletins report on legal proceedings in which a conviction has been obtained. In publishing them, we are seeking to increase awareness of the Agency’s role in enforcing the Acts and Regulations for which it is responsible. Under its mandate, CFIA provides Canadian businesses and consumers with inspection and related services that contribute to improving the overall integrity of the food safety, animal health and plant protection systems.
