Poissonnerie du Phare Ouest Inc., a company in Matane, has been convicted of trying to export fish that was not processed or stored in a federally registered establishment. This is an infraction of subsection 6(1) of the Fish Inspection Regulations.

Mr. Justice Marc Gagnon of the Court of Quebec fined Poissonnerie du Phare Ouest Inc. $1,000. The case was closed on June 1 after the company unsuccessfully attempted to appeal the decision.

CFIA prosecution bulletins report on legal proceedings in which a conviction has been obtained. In publishing them, we are seeking to increase awareness of the Agency’s role in enforcing the Acts and Regulations for which it is responsible. Under its mandate,  CFIA provides Canadian businesses and consumers with inspection and related services that contribute to improving the overall integrity of the food safety, animal health and plant protection systems.
