ALLERGY ALERT

ALLERGY ALERT - PRESENCE OF WHEAT IN LEVITTS MEAT PRODUCTS

OTTAWA, January 28, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA)is warning people with allergies to wheat protein not to consume the Levitts meat products described below. These products may contain wheat which is not included in the ingredient list on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to wheat protein.

The following Levitts meat products bearing the Establishment code Canada 48 are affected by this alert:

Levitts Kosher Foods Inc., Montreal, Quebec is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products are known to have been distributed in Quebec and Ontario but may have been distributed nationally.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with an allergy to wheat protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
