ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED MILK PROTEIN IN KAOKA BRAND DARK 70% ORGANIC CHOCOLATE

OTTAWA, February 3, 2004 - The public warning issued on January 30, 2004 has been expanded to include additional information on product distribution. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Aux mille et une saisons Inc. are warning people with allergies to milk protein not to consume the Kaoka brand Dark 70% Organic Chocolate described below. The affected product may contain milk protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to milk protein.

The affected product, imported from France, is sold in a 100 g size, bearing UPC 3 477730 001206. Only the code Best Before End 06.05 3157C is affected by this alert.

The importer, Aux mille et une saisons Inc., Scotstown, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The affected product is known to have been distributed in Quebec and Ontario but may be distributed nationally.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
