ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED MILK AND TREE NUTS PROTEINS IN CERTAIN KAOKA BRAND CHOCOLATE PRODUCTS

OTTAWA, February 23, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Aux mille et une saisons Inc. are warning people with allergies to milk or tree nuts proteins not to consume the Kaoka brand products listed below. The affected products may contain milk or tree nuts proteins which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to milk or tree nuts proteins.

All codes of the following Kaoka brand products, imported from France, are affected by this alert:

The importer, Aux mille et une saisons Inc., Scotstown, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products are known to have been distributed in Quebec and Ontario but may have been distributed nationally.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk or tree nuts proteins. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
