ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED EGGS IN CREME CAKES MADE BY CAKES UNLIMITEDOTTAWA, March 10, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Cakes Unlimited are warning people with allergies to eggs not to consume Chocolatey Chocolate Chip and Marble Creme Cakes. The affected products contain eggs which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to egg protein. The following products, are affected by this alert. 1. Chocolatey Chocolate Chip Creme Cake, 450 g, UPC 7 76514 45253 5. 2. Marble Creme Cake, 450 g, UPC 7 76514 45251 1 The manufacturer, Cakes Unlimited, Winnipeg, Manitoba, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
