ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED MILK IN SEA WOODS BRAND SOFT FLOUR CAKE

OTTAWA, April 22, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Kuo Hua Trading Company Ltd. are warning people with allergies to milk not to consume Sea Woods brand Soft Flour Cake. The affected product contains milk which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to milk.

The affected product, Sea Woods brand Soft Flour Cake, is manufactured in Taiwan. It is sold in a 250 g package bearing the UPC 4 710218 110014.

The importer, Kuo Hua Trading Company Ltd., Markham, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The affected product has been distributed in Ontario.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
