ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED EGG PROTEIN IN VARIOUS MARSHMALLOW SQUARES

OTTAWA, May 26, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Biscuits Rondeau Inc. are warning people with allergies to egg protein not to consume the various Marshmallow squares described below. The affected products may contain egg protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to egg protein.

The following products with date codes of 13JUL04 up to and including 21SEP04 are affected by this alert :

1. Big Daddy, Crispy Rice Marshmallow Square Original, sold in a 48 g package bearing UPC 6 26233 59110 0.

2. Maxi Snack, Marshmallow Square, Soft & Chewy Original taste, sold in a 63 g package bearing UPC 6 26233 59120 9.

3. Mega Snack, Marshmallow Square, Soft & Chewy Original taste, sold in a 90 g package bearing UPC 6 26233 59100 1.

Biscuits Rondeau Inc., Laval, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products are known to have been distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and may have been distributed nationally.

Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to egg protein. There has been one reported illness associated with the consumption of these products.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
