ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED SOY PROTEIN IN VALLEY HOUSE BRAND IQF HOT & SPICY CHICKEN WINGSOTTAWA, June 11, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Eastern Protein Foods Ltd. are warning people with allergies to soy protein not to consume Valley House brand IQF Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings described below. The affected product contains soy protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to soy protein. The affected product, Valley House brand IQF Hot & Spicy Chicken Wings ( product Identification Code 24507 ), is sold in a 4 kg box primarily to food service establishments like restaurant, cafeteria, etc. However, some product may also have been sold to consumers at retail outlets. All production date codes of this product are affected by this alert. The manufacturer, Eastern Protein Foods Ltd., Kentville, Nova Scotia, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. This product has been distributed in Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to soy protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
