ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED SULPHITES IN DRIED LILY FLOWER

OTTAWA, August 27, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with sensitivities to sulphites not to consume the Dried Lily Flower described below. The affected product contains sulphites which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites or who are asthmatic.

The affected product, Dried Lily Flower, a product of China, is sold in a 150 g package bearing UPC 4 891626 002082. The label indicates that this product is packed by Easy & Busy Ltd., Hong Kong.

Sunmart International Ltd., Markham Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The affected product has been distributed in Ontario.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites. Sulphites may trigger an asthmatic reaction in people who have asthma. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
