ALLERGY ALERTUNDECLARED SULPHITES IN BASSÉ ET FRÈRES BRAND DRYED APRICOTS AND DES BOIS MIXOTTAWA, November 12, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Bassé et Frères Alimentation Oriental Inc., are warning people with sensitivities to sulphites not to consume Bassé et Frères brand Dryed Apricots and Des Bois Mix described below. These products may contain sulphites which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites. All Best Before codes of the following Bassé et Frères brand products which do not declare sulphites on the label are affected by this alert. Those packages which clearly declare sulphites are not affected.
The manufacturer, Bassé et Frères Alimentation Oriental Inc., Montreal, Quebec, is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The affected products have been distributed in Quebec. Consumption of these products may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
