ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED MILK PROTEIN IN EQUALITY BRAND POTATO WITH BACON PEROGIES

OTTAWA, November 26, 2004 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and The Great Atlantic & Pacific Company of Canada Ltd. are warning people with allergies to milk not to consume one code of Equality brand Potato with Bacon Perogies. The affected product may contain milk protein which is not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have allergies to milk protein.

The affected product, Equality brand Potato with Bacon Perogies is sold in a 1 kg bag bearing UPC 0 57627 60525 5. Only the product bearing the Best Before date of 05 AU 24 is affected by this alert.

The Great Atlantic & Pacific Company of Canada Ltd., Toronto, Ontario, is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace. The affected product has been distributed in Ontario.

Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to milk protein. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product.

The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.
