The following information was transmitted to the news media by the CFIA on December 22, 2004, on behalf of Kinnikinnick Foods Inc.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

ALLERGY ALERT

UNDECLARED SOY IN KINNIKINNICK DONUTS

Edmonton, December 22, 2004 - Kinnikinnick Foods Inc. is warning consumer with allergies to SOY not to consume Kinnikinnick Cinnamon Sugar Donuts or Kinnikinnick Chocolate Dipped Donuts because they are incorrectly labelled and contain SOY which is not declared on the label. Ingredient listing states Pea Protein when it should state Soy Protein.

Only Products with applied labels are affected. Products in preprinted bags correctly state ingredients and are not included in this recall.

The product being recalled is :

  • Kinnikinnick Chocolate Dipped Donuts, UPC 6 20133 00216 2 in a 480 g package. Best before date between 04152005 and 09202005
  • Kinnikinnick Cinnamon Sugar Donuts, UPC 6 20133 00215 5 in a 480 g package. Best before date between 04152005 and 09202005

The product is distributed in across Canada and the United States.

SOY may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to SOY.

Consumers who are allergic to SOY should return the products to point of sale for a refund. Consumer who are allergic to SOY who purchased products directly from Kinnikinnick Foods Inc. should contact the company directly.

This is a company initiated recall. There have been no reported illnesses associated with this product.
