What you can do about the Asian Long-horned Beetle (ALHB)

Italian Version

  • Do immediately contact the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) if you have any questions about the survey or tree removal process at 416-665-5055.

  • Do report the location of any sightings of the beetle to the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.

  • Do not move the beetle from where you find it. If you find and can catch a live beetle, please place in a suitable container and store in your freezer. Immediately call the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342, and the CFIA will send inspection staff to collect the beetle from you directly.

  • Do report to CFIA the location of any trees or nursery stock that show signs of infestation - 1 cm diameter holes that appear "drilled" or small reddish brown scars "chewed"into the branches or trunk. Holes will be visible year-round, while scars only appear during the spring and summer.

  • Do not move or transport any fallen or pruned branches, any woody material or tree(s) from the regulated area.

  • Do ask your landscape maintenance companies or property management companies not to move any tree materials (including nursery stock, firewood and fallen or pruned branches) from the regulated area.

  • Do check the exterior surfaces of your vehicle if it has been parked in the area to prevent transport of live beetles out of the area.

  • Do visit the CFIA website at www.inspection.gc.ca to learn more about the ALHB, the damage it can do, and how it spreads.

  • Do contact the CFIA, City of Toronto or City of Vaughan for more information on the disposal of prunings, branches, dead trees or firewood. These materials are to be disposed of at a CFIA designated site:

CFIA at 416-665-5055
City of Toronto, 416-338-TREE
City of Vaughan, 905-832-8577 x 6137
